You've probably spent an evening reading about full-arch options and finished feeling less sure than when you started. Same-day teeth. Snap-in dentures. Implant-supported dentures. Implant-retained. All-on-4. All-on-X. One website treats them as the same thing, the next treats them as opposites. The language really is used loosely, and even careful offices can blur the differences.
At Summit Dental Studio, Dr. Chase manages your case from the initial treatment plan through the final restoration. He and the team start every one of these conversations with a single question, because it does most of the sorting for you: does the new set of teeth come out at night, or does it stay in? Implant dentures snap out for cleaning. All-on-X is fixed in place by your dentist and stays there for good. Same implants underneath. Two very different daily lives on top.
Below is the whole picture in plain language, so you can figure out where you land before you ever sit in a chair. If you'd rather just talk it through, we're right here in Dayton at (937) 977-1818, or you can schedule a visit.
Both options start with the same foundation: titanium posts placed into your jawbone. Over the months after surgery, your bone grows around those posts and locks them in place. That stable base is what everything else attaches to, whether you end up with a snap-in denture or a fixed full arch.
So the implants are the constant. What changes is what connects on top, whether your teeth clip on and lift off, or thread in and stay put. A lot of people come in thinking snap-in dentures are the lesser option. They aren't. The posts doing the work underneath are the same dental implants we use for single teeth and full arch cases. You're really just choosing between two ways of using them, and that's a much easier decision to sit with.
One more thing worth knowing: a conventional denture that rests on your gums, held in place by suction and adhesive, is a completely different category. No implants, no anchorage. When people talk about years of slipping, sore spots, and avoiding certain foods, that's usually what they're describing. Both options on this page exist to put an end to that. If you're not sure which category you're currently in, the sections below will help you figure it out.
Also called snap-in dentures or implant-retained dentures. We place a small number of dental implants, often two to four in an arch, and fit each one with a small attachment on top. Your denture clicks onto those attachments and locks in place.
You'll feel it seat when it's in. It doesn't float, and it doesn't shift when you bite into something with real texture. Each night you unclip it, clean it, and snap it back in the morning.
This option works well for people who want a real upgrade in stability but aren't looking for a fully fixed arch. It's also a strong fit if bone loss makes a fixed restoration more complex to plan, or if you simply don't mind taking your denture out at night. And if you've been managing with something loose or unreliable, this is the kind of change that makes a noticeable difference.
Removable means removable. There is a nightly routine. The attachments are small parts that wear down over time, so they get replaced periodically. On an upper arch, a snap-in denture still covers the roof of your mouth, which some people notice when it comes to taste and temperature. At Summit Dental Studio, Dr. Chase handles the surgery, the treatment planning, and the final restoration, so the recommendation you get is based on your full picture, not just one piece of it.
For some people, taking anything out at night is a dealbreaker. That's where fixed full-arch implants come in.
A complete arch of teeth, upper or lower or both, is anchored directly to implants and secured in place at our office. It doesn't come out at home. You brush it, clean underneath it with a water flosser or the tools we show you, and go live your life. At your professional cleaning, we remove it, clean everything thoroughly, and put it right back.
It's simply how many implants are supporting your arch. Your jaw anatomy determines that number: where the densest bone sits, how your bite distributes force, and how much support the arch needs to stay stable over time. More implants isn't automatically better, and fewer isn't cutting corners. It's what your specific anatomy calls for, which is why we plan every case digitally before anything else.
It's the closest thing to natural teeth we can build. Nothing covers the roof of your mouth on the upper arch. No nightly removal, no adhesive, no small attachments to swap out. Biting force travels through the implants directly into your bone, which is why chewing feels so different from a denture that rests on your gums.
It's a larger investment and a bigger surgical commitment than some of the advertising in this space would suggest. Cleaning takes a little technique, because you're working around and under a bridge you can't lift out. We'll walk you through exactly how, and it becomes routine quickly. It also asks more of your bone upfront, which is worth knowing before you start.
You may have heard that a fixed arch is off the table for you. Sometimes it isn't. Bone and sinus grafting can build support where the bone is thin, giving your own bone the space it needs to grow in before implants are placed.
And for more severe bone loss, Dr. Chase has trained specifically in remote anchorage implants. Pterygoid and zygomatic implants are techniques that anchor into denser bone further back and higher up in the facial structure, reaching areas where standard implant placement can't. Patients come to us in Dayton after being told it can't be done. Sometimes we agree, and we'll tell you honestly. Often we don't.
Because Dr. Chase handles your case from the first consultation through surgery and final restoration, you have one person who knows your full picture at every stage.
Knowing the difference is one thing. Knowing which one fits your life is another. Before you compare a single price, work through these.
Some people genuinely don't care. It's a two-minute routine, the same as any other. Others find the idea hard, and that feeling doesn't shrink over time. Neither answer is wrong. Your real answer narrows the field fast.
Keeping the total cost as low as possible, even if that means a nightly routine and a slightly different feel? Or getting as close to natural teeth as you can, with a bigger investment to get there? Say which one out loud at your consultation and half the options fall away on their own.
Bone volume shapes what's possible: how many implants your arch needs, whether grafting comes first, and whether same-day teeth are realistic. No online checklist can answer that. Imaging can.
Bring that up early. An implant placed years ago may fit right into a new plan, or it may sit in a spot that doesn't work for full-arch support. We'd rather look at it and give you an honest answer. Protecting what you've already invested in is part of the job.

Plan on about an hour with us. Dr. Chase reviews your imaging with you in the room, on the screen, so you can see exactly what he sees rather than hearing a summary from someone else later. The visit is a conversation, and there is nothing to pass or fail.
What we typically cover:
If you've seen ads for same-day teeth or already been through a consultation at a larger center, this is where you get a recommendation built around your specific bone structure and goals, not a one-size-fits-all package. You'll leave knowing where you stand, whether that's a fixed arch, a snap-in denture, or a step you need to take first.

Usually, yes. Snap-in, implant-retained, and implant-supported overdenture all describe a denture that clips onto implants and comes out for cleaning. The confusion comes from sites that use "implant-supported" as a catch-all term that covers fixed arches too. If a phrase leaves you guessing, just ask whoever used it: what do these teeth do at bedtime? Do they come out or stay in? Our consultations always start by clearing that up.
Essentially, yes. All-on-4 became the household name because it was the original branded protocol that made fixed full arches widely known, so many offices still market it that way even when the case calls for a different number of implants. What actually matters is how many implants your jaw can support and where the best bone is, not what name is on the brochure. That's something we work through together at your consultation.
Sometimes, yes. It depends on where your existing implants are positioned and how much bone you have to work with. Some cases transition cleanly, while others need additional implants placed in better spots first. If a staged approach is what you're hoping for, bring it up early so we can plan implant positions with that goal in mind from the start.
The implants themselves are built to last in both cases, as long as they're kept clean and your bite is well managed. The difference is really in what sits on top of them. A removable denture and its attachments do wear over time and get refreshed periodically. A fixed arch is maintained at your regular cleanings and may eventually need the bridge portion updated. Neither option is maintenance-free, and we'll walk you through exactly what upkeep looks like for whichever path makes sense for you.

Whatever you've already heard or read, the next step is just a conversation. We'll talk about your jaw, your goals, and a timeline that actually fits your life. Every mouth is different, so every plan looks a little different too. Whether that ends up being dental implants, a full mouth reconstruction, or something simpler, we'll figure it out together.
